Airport City: Written and Video Android App Review
If you’ve been hankering for a new kind of builder, our Android app review of Airport City may give you loftier aspirations. This unique Android game from Game Insight International (developers of such hits as My Country and Rock The Vegas) combines some of the best elements of a traditional builder with the sky-bound fun of an airport. You’ll play air traffic controller, build a city designed to support the unique needs of your booming airport, and generally have a ball with this game. We sure did.
Gameplay

Like most builders, Airport City starts out with a lot of hands-on help. You’ll be walked through the process of creating a runway, buying airplanes, sending them out for flights and even collecting passengers. There are tons of options in this game, which features a wide variety of planes, airport buildings and exotic destinations. There’s definitely something oh-so exciting about sending a plane full of people off to the wild blue yonder. It gives Airport City a little something extra when you compare it to other builder titles.
You’ll also spend some time developing an airport-friendly city. To thrive you’ll need a steady influx of fuel and plenty of passengers, so you’ll end up building all sorts of structures. Along the way you’ll be gently nudged along by a steady stream of quests. For a while you need to follow them as you unlock new features, but eventually your vision prevails and you’ll end up building a city and airport that’s all you.
We like the balanced gameplay and unique combination of ideas here. It’s really very well done.
Layout & Design

Airport City
Thanks to several viewing options, Airport City is pretty easy to navigate. The graphics are simple yet varied, and have a solid amount of detail. The airplanes are the coolest addition, again, giving this title something special.
For the most part the app options are organized around the screen’s perimeter, meaning you can make the most of whatever device you’re playing on. For gamers the Airport City app looks great on a tablet, but is decidedly worth looking at on a standard Android phone as well.
Functionality
We had a few issues with button responsiveness in this app both on an Android phone and on the Android tablet. While the app description says Airport City is compatible with a wide variety of Android versions, we highly suggest running this game on something with a dual core processor. It made mincemeat of a poor single core Android phone, where it barely ran at all and often closed and froze. As you can tell from our video review, it did much better on a faster tablet.
Overall Value
Airport City is a great free app, perfect for fans of the builder genre or airplane enthusiasts. For casual gamers this app is simple to pick up and play on a regular basis, maybe once or twice a day, especially once you have a lot of your infrastructure in place. All in all a solid offering.
