Blotty Pots: Written and Video Android App Review
We’ll be upfront about this: We’re absolute suckers for strategy games. We like to use our noggin—and not just for breaking our fall often—and any game that allows us to do so from our Android phone is a winner in our book. As such, we’d like to humbly introduce you to one of our favorite new puzzling titles for the Android platform, Blotty Pots by developer Cobblecrowd. The game brilliantly combines strategy, cute animations, and difficulty into one, paint-splattered package. It’s a fantastic offering, and if you’re a strategy fan of any calibre, you owe it to yourself to give it a test drive. For our full thoughts on this puzzling wonder for the Android platform, check below beyond the break!
Concept and Gameplay

Blotty Pots for Android
It’s rare that we get to say this, so we’re going to do it now with particular relish: Blotty Pots draws upon any number of homages to create a gameplay mechanic that’s—brace yourselves—entirely unique. Ah, that felt good! The app is like a cross between Othello and Checkers, presenting the player with a board of varying sizes, studded in rows with paint cans. Players take turn tapping these cans to fill them up. Three taps puts them on the brink of spilling, and another tips them over. When this occurs, the cans send paint flying in every direction, filling neighboring pots. If the nearby gatherers are also near to bursting, they’ll explode too, creating chain reactions that can rip across the entire board. All in all, it’s a fantastic blend of board conquering madness and strategy that we simply can’t get enough of. When any one player has filled the board with their color, they win the game. Overall, it’s a concept that takes only minutes to learn, but as the computer player is rather difficult, potentially hours to even begin mastery. Complexity in simplicity is kind, and we adore it in Blotty Pots.
Design and Graphics
We recently looked at the iOS edition of Blotty Pots, and we have to admit, we like the Android flavor’s presentation more. The animations are crisp, and the chain reactions are unbelievably exciting. However, we do have many of the same gripes here as in the other review. Local multiplayer is great, but we’d love to see Open Feint integration. Likewise, boards of an even greater size, as well as more players would be an interesting addition, though we have a feeling this would be trickier to implement.
Overall Value
For the dollar that it costs, you really can’t do much better than Blotty Pots. The app is simple, engaging, and truly unique. For that level of ingenuity, we’d be willing to pay a lot more than just a buck. All in all, the app is a real gem for the puzzling or strategy enthusiast, and at the price offered, it’s an unbeatable bargain, to boot. This is a must-have, and deserves much more attention than it’s getting.
