Doodle Devil Android App Review

Doodle Devil

The concept of combining elements is nothing new. Scientists and game players have been at it for years. However my Android app review found that Doodle Devil takes the idea of alchemy one step further, by adding a dash of global domination and doom.

You start with two simple elements, humanity and an apple. Keep combining, and eventually you can end up with 170 elements. I put some solid effort into this app, and after trying for several hours I managed a whopping 52 elements.

As you can tell, Doodle Devil is the kind of app you can play for a long, long time. This devil’s hands have not been idle. There’s also a mini game called Devil Slots that can help you earn (or lose) in game currency, Open Feint integration and a way to use currency to move along faster in the game.

It’s the antithesis of Joybit’s other title, Doodle God. I kind of dig the concept: a creation app that’s about evil and destruction. Fans of the other side of the coin, zombie movies and mayhem in general will approve.

Doodle Devil Android App Review

Doodle Devil

Doodle Devil for Android is full of gruesome graphics, bloody details and some really interesting graphics. I particularly like the thorough job on the screen transition animations and element reveals.

Despite its tasty price tag, Doodle Devil has amazing design work. Each element is represented with a unique, detailed drawing. And don’t get me started on the UI and the hilarious Doodle Devil intro.

A simple touch interface makes mixing your elements of mayhem as easy as sinning. The app’s homepage is a bit busy, with links to Doodle God, Devil Slots, extras and more, but the actual gameplay is quite smooth and relatively painless.

Suffice to say, I am impressed with the Doodle Devil Android app.

Functionality

On a weekly basis I install and remove a dozen apps on my Android. Most of them install easily and come along politely when it’s time to take them off my phone. However, it seemed that the Doodle Devil Android app had other ideas.

Launching the app for the first time cued up a multitude of performance problems on my Android. I actually had to yank my battery out to get off of the app’s frozen screen. The app also froze once or twice while I was playing, and once it voluntarily closed.

This app may be sleek and interesting, but it doesn’t seem to like my phone very much.

Value

I downloaded and reviewed the F2P (free to play) version of Doodle Devil. There is not a paid version in the Android Market at the moment, which suggests beta testing. The app is interesting, even a little enlightening. I’d like it better if it didn’t have any performance issues.
